Beginning the year full of energy!
01 APRIL 2025
We started the year in a calm and steady way, but as the days went by, the pace gradually increased, and we ended February with plenty of activity.
The arrival of our first volunteers has been key. Their support has allowed us to expand the number of activities we offer, improve the quality of the ones we already run, resume projects that had been on hold due to lack of time, and welcome new ideas. In addition, their presence has given the entire Jithubutu team a breath of fresh air, as we feel supported and strengthened by their help.
When volunteers show interest in our project, we talk with them about the activities they’d like to take part in and explain our most pressing needs. Together, we create a schedule that helps them feel both comfortable and useful. During their stay, we hold regular meetings to plan, coordinate, and follow up on their tasks.
This month, we’ve had five volunteers! Thanks to their support, we actively took part in and contributed to one of the projects run by the Samaritan Initiative Organization, the host organization of Jithubutu. S.I.O. works in the fields of education, advocacy, economic empowerment, and social welfare to improve the quality of life in Tanzania. This collaboration allows us to offer volunteers opportunities to participate in initiatives related to these areas.
Two of our volunteers helped graft 1,850 young avocado trees to help them grow and bear fruit more quickly. Some of these trees will be distributed within the community, while the rest will be sold to generate income that will help the project sustain itself.
On another note, we’ve extended the schedule for our Spanish classes and added French lessons, along with two weekly fitness sessions. Our English conversation class has seen a remarkable increase in participants, and more and more of our members are spontaneously playing board games to keep practicing.
We continue moving forward with our morning workshops, where we recycle, create, and add value. Among other initiatives, we’ve launched a new pallet workshop where we teach participants how to build tables, benches, and shelves—while also making the furniture we need ourselves. In addition, we’ve incorporated Spanish learning into these workshops, combining both activities in a fun and interactive way. This helps our members improve their Spanish as much as possible before the high tourist season begins in June.
